A U.S. special operations team operating in the Indian Ocean intercepted a vessel last month en route from China to Iran, seizing military-related items, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing U.S. officials.
According to one official, the cargo included components that could be used in Iran’s conventional weapons programmes. The seized materials were later destroyed.

The operation took place several hundred miles off Sri Lanka’s coast. After the boarding and inspection, the ship was permitted to continue its journey, the report said.
The expanding presence of Western navies across the Pacific, Indian Ocean, and increasingly the Arctic, where Chinese civilian vessels are now using the Northern Sea Route, has strengthened Western control over key global trade corridors.
