Six people were safely rescued when the diving boat Urafa ran aground on the reef to the west of Nolhivaranfaru in the Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
The six people on board were transported safely to Nolhivaranfaru by a dinghy, following the incident. The MNDF Northern Area Command, Coast Guard First Squadron and Maldives Police Service were active in the area.
MNDF reported the incident on Monday night, although the exact time the vessel ran aground was not immediately clear.
The incident occurs as the Maldives Meteorological Service predicts rain and rough seas across the country over the next two days. The Met Office is advising those who are travelling by sea to stay aware of the changing weather conditions.
