On Monday, South Korea’s presidential office strongly condemned the recent attack on an HMM Co. cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as an unjustifiable act against a commercial ship.
Officials reported that a forensic inspection at a Dubai port revealed previously undetected damage to the vessel’s lower port stern. The attack also caused a fire in the engine room.

National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac stated that the government will respond once the source of the attack is confirmed.
South Korean officials confirmed the vessel complied with all regulations while sailing near the United Arab Emirates. Iran’s involvement is still unclear, and Tehran has denied responsibility. U.S. President Donald Trump previously claimed Iran fired at the vessel and urged Seoul to help protect shipping routes in the strait.
