The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) continues to search for two crew members missing after a landing craft capsized off K. Gaafaru on Friday. The operation has covered more than 2,700 square nautical miles through maritime and aerial searches.
The vessel was traveling from K. Thilafushi with 10 crew members, two Maldivians and eight expatriates, when it sank on Friday morning. Eight crew members were rescued, while two Indian nationals remain missing.

In an update posted on X on Sunday morning, the MNDF stated that the Coast Guard and the Air Corps have searched an area of 2,747 square nautical miles as part of the search operation. Meanwhile, Coast Guard divers have searched the spot where the landing craft sank, and the newly commissioned Coast Guard ship Imaduddin has been sent to help with the operation.

Eight of the ten crew members were safely taken to Gaafaru.
The accident occurred amid rough seas and strong winds caused by the southwest monsoon. The MNDF said the search for the two missing sailors is ongoing.
