Repair work on the Hulhumale wooden jetty began on Monday, two months after it was severely damaged in a barge collision.
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) stated that the jetty suffered considerable structural damage when a barge hit it as it was entering the Hulhumalé lagoon, and repair work has therefore started to restore the facility.
HDC stated that the wooden jetty is widely used by the public and added that measures are underway to complete the repairs and reopen it as soon as possible.
The company also offered an apology for the inconvenience experienced during the time when the jetty is closed.
On May 26 the wooden jetty was temporarily closed because it had sustained major damage when a barge hit it while docking.
