Multi-Million Dollar Port Coming to L. Atoll

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) CEO Mohamed Wajih Ibrahim announced the construction of a new commercial port in L. Atoll, funded and expected to begin this year.

According to PSM News, the government entrusted MPL with developing and operating the L. Atoll commercial port, situated at L. Gaadhoo. Wajih highlighted the area’s attractiveness for a commercial port, targeting sectors like tourism, bunkering services, storage, cruise terminals, and transshipment.

The project, costing millions of dollars, has secured financing and contractors, ensuring its commencement this year, Wajih confirmed. The L. Atoll Business Port is also projected to generate 2,000 new jobs.

Furthermore, Wajih mentioned ongoing efforts to develop Addu Hithadhoo Port, including established bunkering services. Similar services are planned for Kulhudhuffushi Port as well.
