MTCC signs agreements with MPL to develop two regional ports

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) signed an agreement with Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), on 27th January 2022, for the development of regional ports, in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi and Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo. The agreement was signed on behalf of MTCC by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adam Azim and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Shahid Hussain Moosa. From MPL’s side, the agreement was signed by the CEO, Shahid Ali, and the Chief Engineer, Adam Mohamed.
As per this agreement, MTCC would assume the duties to redevelop Kulhudhuffushi Regional Port, consisting of; dredging the lagoon; building a new jetty, an administrative building, and a workshop building; installing revetment and navigation lights; and conducting an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project.
MTCC was previously contracted by MPL for the design and construction of the Thinadhoo Regional Port, which was concluded on 7th April 2021. According to MTCC, the scope of the work included dredging a 4500cbm from channel basin, laying a 3000sqm rc slab pavement, establishment of a storm water management system and fencing the port area. The project was valued at MVR 15,000,000 (approx. USD 1 million). Under this new contract, MTCC would be continuing the work by initiating the second phase of the project, which would include the development of major port infrastructure such as the building of the guardhouse, warehouse, workshop building, and administrative building. The project further includes the installation of navigational lights and a porch.
MTCC is contracted to conclude work on the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Port within 495 days, and the work on the Thinadhoo Regional Port within 330 days. The two projects are valued at MVR 138,980,244.28 (USD 8.9 million) and MVR 17,864,369,16 (USD 1.15 million) respectively.
