Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has officially inked an agreement with the Ministry of National Planning, Housing & Infrastructure to initiate the Lh. Olhuvelifushi Harbor Development Project.
At a ceremony attended by MP Abdul Ghani, COO Shahid Hussain Moosa represented MTCC, while Ms. Fathimath Shaana Farooq, Director-General, signed on behalf of the Ministry.
This agreement marks a significant step towards providing improved docking facilities for local residents and addressing the challenges encountered during boat arrivals and departures.
The comprehensive project encompasses various essential components, including:
- Maintenance dredging operations totaling 7,534 cubic meters.
- New harbor basin dredging operations amounting to 19,857 cubic meters.
- Channel dredging operations, accounting for 14,160 cubic meters.
- The construction of a 164-meter revetment.
- A 172-meter breakwater.
- A 156-meter sand-filled breakwater outer revetment.
- A 156-meter sand-filled breakwater inner revetment.
- A 246-meter quay wall.
- An 11-meter by 11-meter ramp.
- A 27-meter by 5-meter bridge.
- A 132-meter by 2-meter jetty.
- A 1,149-square-meter pavement.
- Installation of navigational and harbor lights.
The project is anticipated to be completed in December 2024 and comes with a budget of MVR 66.40 million.
