MSS Partners with Centre for Maritime Studies to Host Maritime Training for Female Employees

Maldives State Shipping (MSS) organised a dedicated training session for its female employees to mark Women in Maritime Day. The one-day program was held on May 26th at the Maldives National University’s Centre for Maritime Studies in Villingili, and the Centre’s experts provided facilitation.

The training featured a comprehensive session on shipbuilding fundamentals, covering topics such as ship construction requirements, ship particulars including flag states, general arrangement (GA) and capacity plans, the Baltic 99 cargo questionnaire, classification societies and IACS standards, vessel surveys, and mandatory onboard certification.

Participants also explored greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, maritime industry policy frameworks, the Poseidon Principles, and the Sea Cargo Charter.

The second half of the session offered a hands-on experience through a state-of-the-art navigation simulator, allowing participants to experience vessel navigation in real-time scenarios. This interactive component allowed them to gain practical insight into ship navigation and handling processes at sea, providing a closer look at the complexities of maritime navigation and enhancing their understanding of daily operations onboard vessels.
