In a significant expansion of its export operations, the Maldives State Shipping (MSS) has announced its venture into Southeast Asia. The company, collaborating with the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), shipped its first batch of frozen fish on July 14th aboard the cargo ship MSS Graphene.
This initiative highlights MSS’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Maldivian fisheries industry’s export capabilities. The company has a successful track record of exporting fish from MIFCO and other Maldivian businesses to European markets. They represent Hapag-Lloyd, the world’s fourth-largest shipping line, and have a network of agents in over 30 countries.
MSS boasts a fleet of five cargo ships and over 2,000 containers, constantly expanding its shipping routes. Currently, they operate cargo services between Colombo and Malé, as well as Dubai and Malé. This new route to Southeast Asia, specifically Malaysia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka, underscores MSS’s commitment to both broadening its market reach and supporting the Maldivian fishing industry.
