Maldives Ports Limited’s (MPL) statistics reveal that they successfully cleared 30,701 Freight tonnes (FT) of cargo from the 15th of February to the 21st of February.
The company disclosed that out of the total cleared containers, 26,469.21 FT of cargo were cleared from container vessels and 2852.78 FT of cargo were cleared from general cargo.
During the same period, 10 vessels arrived at Male’ Commercial Harbour. This comprised 2 container vessels and 8 general cargo vessels. The company managed the loading and unloading of 1876 TEUs.
MPL’s data highlighted the types of perishables processed during the week. These included a variety of fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon, onion, cabbage, pineapple, and eggs.
Port congestion and heavy vessel traffic were reported at Male’ Commercial Harbour earlier this month ahead of Ramadan, with several vessels forced to idle for days before discharging commenced, resulting in higher freight rates.
