Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has made changes to export container fee since January 1, 2023.
MPL previously charge USD287 on 20 foot containers which is now being lowered to USD74. The export fee for a 40 foot container has been reduced to USD147 from the previous USD569.
MPL stated that they decided to revise the export container transfer fee to encourage local export businesses. The company also aimed to promote export sector businesses and supporting economic growth in the Maldives.
Maldives mainly export fish and fish related commodities to international markets. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MPL Shahid Ali noted that higher export container fee was a major concern for exporters. The company met and discussed with fish exporters in the Maldives regarding their concerns and challenges. MPL further noted that fish exporters are satisfied with the current fees.
With the change on export container fees, local exporters can save up to 75% of when sending goods abroad.
