MPL and Uligan Council Sign MoU to Lease Land for Uligan Yacht Marina Development

The Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially signed a land lease agreement with the HA. Uligan Council in order to enable the establishment of a modern yacht marina on the northern island.

The ceremony marking the signing took place at MPL’s head office in Malé, where CEO Captain Hussain Shafeeq signed on behalf of the company, and Asadulla Mohamed, president of the Uligan Council, on behalf of the island authority.

Under the terms of the agreement, the council will lease 70,471 square meters of land to MPL. This property will host the development and operational infrastructure for the “Uligan Yacht Marina Project”.

Project Highlights

  • The land, measuring about 70,471 m², to be leased to MPL for the construction of the marina and related facilities.
  • Modern berthing infrastructure, comprehensive maritime support, and upgraded regional services.
  • Drive leisure craft arrivals, expand regional commerce, and generate new revenue streams in the northernmost atoll.

The Uligan Marina project is a planned development featuring a marina near the northern tip of the Maldives, strategically located near one of the busiest maritime routes for leisure travelers and world trade. Officials emphasize that establishing purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities will help monetize this existing traffic, providing a significant boost to local tourism, maritime service industries, and overall regional trade.

The project to develop the yacht marina was initially signed in 2024.
