The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has received a new ship from the government of India to replace Coast Guard Ship (CGS) Huravee.
According to MNDF, the new ship has more operational capacity than CGS Huravee, which will be decommissioned after the new ship’s official handover in May. CGS Huravee, the biggest and the most capable ship in the MNDF fleet was donated by India in 2006. The ship has since then been refitted six times at the Indian Naval Dockyard.
The new ship arrived on 15th April and Maldivian military officers are currently being trained on operating the machinery and equipment on the ship. MNDF further reported that the Indian navy crew on the ship will return home once the officers have finished their two-week training program.
