A migrant worker was killed in a boat accident near A.Dh.Dhangethi this morning. The victim, a resident of F. Fiah and a Bangladeshi national, was reportedly fishing in the area when he was struck by a boat named “My Express.”
The boat’s captain, Ismail Aziz, has been arrested by police in connection with the incident. According to Dhangethi Council President Muawiyat Rasheed, the accident occurred in a spot frequented by fishermen and also on a route used by boats travelling to Male’.
Witnesses on the island reported that “My Express” was travelling at sunrise, and that the sun may have hampered the visibility of those on board, leading to the collision.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
