1. Give us a brief introduction about yourself and your career.

Hi, I’m Raufa Hassan, and I’ve been part of the logistics industry since January 2017. My primary role revolves around managing documentation for freight forwarding, including imports, exports, and vessel handling. Starting in this field at a young age has provided me with invaluable learning opportunities, setting a solid foundation for a promising future in the industry. Every day, I strive to expand my understanding and expertise in this dynamic field

2.  What initially drew you to the maritime industry?

When I joined this industry, I had zero knowledge about maritime or shipping. I believe it is my enthusiasm and willingness to learn more about maritime and shipping that contributed to my interest towards the field over the past 7 years.

As a Maldivian, the sea is an integral part of my life, shaping my daily activities and surroundings. Growing up surrounded by ocean transport methods, I developed a deep appreciation for the maritime industry. I was initially drawn to its global perspective, dynamic challenges, and diverse career opportunities

 3. What are the biggest challenges you face in your current role?

One of the primary challenges in our role revolves around fragmented communication with agents and customers, largely due to the constantly evolving rules and regulations. Another significant hurdle is ensuring efficient and reliable transportation of goods between the Maldives’ numerous islands. With over 1,000 islands scattered across the Indian Ocean, logistics operations become inherently complex. Moreover, the limited infrastructure, including ports

and transportation networks, presents substantial obstacles to timely deliveries. Additionally, adverse weather conditions and the impact of climate change, such as sea-level rise, further complicate logistical operations. Consequently, our ongoing focus is on optimizing supply chain management and devising innovative solutions to overcome these challenges.

4. What is the future of maritime in Maldives?

The future of Maldives maritime hinges on enhancing infrastructure, embracing sustainability, utilizing technology, and bolstering international collaborations to address hurdles and foster sustainable growth, including expanding port capacity.

The maritime industry is filled with intriguing and fulfilling career paths. It offers excellent opportunities to network with professionals, find mentors, and develop leadership skills through training. Therefore, I encourage more young individuals to consider joining the industry to pursue rewarding maritime careers and advance their professional growth
