Maldives Sees 51% Increase in Exports in March

Exports increased by 51% in March 2023 compared to March 2022, according to data by Maldives Customs Services. This is an increase of MVR 116 million.

Major exporting countries were Thailand (66%), United Kingdom (9%), France (4%), Italy (3%), and Turkey (2%). Compared to last year, three countries have been replaced in the top five – Mauritius, Germany, and India.

In March 2023, top exports were Frozen Skipjack Tuna Stripe-bellied Bonito (224m), Prepared and Preserved Skipjack Tuna (54 million), Fresh or Chilled Yellowfin Tuna Chunk (10m), and Yellowfin Tuna Loins (9m).

Meanwhile, imports also show an increase of 10%, valued at MVR 4.3 billion (including fuel). Most imports came from UAE (17%), India (16%), Oman (11%), Singapore (9%), and China (8%).
