Maldives’ Maritime Research Vessel Departs from Goa

The maritime research vessel made in Goa for the Maldives government will reach the country this month, according to the Environment Ministry.

Named ‘Thimaaveshi’, the 30-meter catamaran was flagged off by Goa’s Chief Minister and will depart to the Maldives on 23rd May. Funded by the World Bank and built by Vijai Marine Shipyard, the vessel will help the Maldives track effects of climate change, impact on coral reefs, and fisheries.

The main deck of Thimaaveshi will have two rooms with a seating capacity of three, a toilet, a kitchen, and a dining area. Meanwhile, the upper deck will have a work-specific section, a wet lab and a dry lab, as well as a diving compressor room. It will also feature a wheelhouse, a room for master and engineering, and three rooms with a seating capacity of four each.
