Maldives Imports Decrease by 4 Percent in April 2023

The CIF value of imported goods to the Maldives in April 2023 decreased by 4% compared to the same period last year, as revealed by customs data.

Imports amounted to MVR 4.5 billion in April 2023. This is a reduction of MVR 2 million compared to April 2022. Maldives Customs also reported a 16% drop in revenue, with MVR 305 million received this April compared to MVR 361 million in April last year.

The majority of goods imported were from India, valued at MVR 757 million, representing 17% of total imports. Oman followed with goods worth MVR 707 million, while the UAE accounted for MVR 573 million, China for MVR 520 million, and Singapore for MVR 467 million.

During April 2023, exports saw a 4% change as well, increasing from MVR 186 million last year to MVR 193 million last month. Thailand emerged as the primary export destination, constituting 45% of total exports, followed by the UK with 18%, and Germany with 11%.
