Maldives and Serbia signed four key agreements on 9th May – including an agreement on Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation.
During an official visit to Serbia, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid further signed an Air Services Agreement; MoU on Cooperation in the field of Diplomatic Education; and MoU in the Field of Sports between the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Serbia.
The foreign ministers of the two countries exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in existing areas, and exploring new avenues of cooperation – particularly on trade, tourism, sports and environment.
According to Minister Shahid, the trade agreement increases Maldives’ economic security and provides access to new markets for Maldivian exports and for increased investment from Serbia.
He added that the agreements will not only increase the cooperation in areas such as sports, trade, and people to people connection, but it is also a testament to the growing bilateral relations between the two countries.
