A fire broke out aboard a boat off K. Gulhifalhu on Saturday afternoon, according to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
MNDF said the fire on board the Oxon Carrier 2 was reported at around 1:22 pm, and firefighters from the Hulhumale’ Fire Station were deployed to the scene.
The fire is believed to have started in the vessel’s engine room.
Fuel Supply Maldives was reportedly among the first responders to the incident, with an FSM vessel arriving at the scene first and assisting efforts to control the fire.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at around 2:45 pm.
According to the MNDF, five people were on board at the time of the fire and were safely moved to another vessel. No injuries were reported, though the engine room sustained major damage.
