A dead whale measuring approximately 30 feet in length washed ashore on the western reef of HA. Hoarafushi on Monday morning.
The Hoarafushi Island Council said efforts to remove and dispose of the carcass began immediately after it was discovered, in coordination with relevant authorities.

The whale was later brought ashore and buried in a joint operation involving the Hoarafushi Council, Maldives Police Service, MNDF Northern Area Command, and the MTCC Hoarafushi site team.
Photos shared by the council showed two dinghies being used to tow the carcass towards the shore, while an excavator was used to prepare a burial site on the island’s beach.

The council thanked the institutions involved for their cooperation and support in carrying out the operation.
