Captain Hussain Shafeeq has been appointed as Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited, the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board announced today.
The Board said the appointment also places Hussain Shafeeq on the company’s Board of Directors, effective Wednesday.
Captain Shafeeq is a Master Mariner with over 35 years in the maritime sector, including more than a decade as a Captain. He has operated on international routes and led overseas voyages.
He holds a Master Mariner Certificate of Competency (Unlimited) and an Advanced Diploma in Maritime Science.
He has served on bulk carriers, general cargo vessels, and heavy-lift ships. He also held positions as Chief Officer, Second Officer, and Third Officer at various companies, gaining experience in crew training and vessel safety oversight.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he served as Captain of MTCC’s Mahaa Jarraaf, becoming the first Maldivian to command the vessel.
